Fire safety legislation within Northern Ireland changed dramatically in November 2010. The new legislation was introduced through:
The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 (Part III Fire Safety) and,
Fire Safety (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2010.
When the Order and Regulations came into effect, the following legislation was repealed:
The Fire Services (NI) Order 1984 - removal of fire certificates
Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations (NI) 2001
Relevant fire related parts of health & safety legislation.
The Order places an increased emphasis on fire prevention and in so doing; follow a similar approach to that which is already in place in England and Wales & Scotland. The new regime is based on risk assessment.
