What's happening on the legislative front?
Fire safety legislation within Northern Ireland is set to change dramatically in the very near future. The new legislation will be introduced through:
The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 (Part III Fire Safety) and the Fire Safety (Northern Ireland) Regulations.
Once the Order and Regulations come into effect, the following existing legislation will case to have effect:
The Fire Services (NI) Order 1984 - removal of fire certificates
Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations (NI) 2001
Relevant fire related parts of health & safety legislation.
The Order will place an increased emphasis on fire prevention and in so doing; follow a similar approach to that which is already in place in England and Wales & Scotland. The new regime will be based on risk assessment.
BHB will run a series of information seminars and training courses when the new order comes into place, but in the meantime, remember Fire Risk Assessments still need to be carried out. For further advice and guidance, call BHB at 028 9446 9181
