Fire Extinguisher Operation
This 2 hour course equips participants with the information and practical skills required to safely select and use the correct fire extinguisher.
Objectives
On completion of this course participants will be able to: • Understand the different Fire Classifications • Select the appropriate extinguisher • Use portable fire extinguishers safely and effectively.

- Course Introduction and Objectives
- Fire Triangle
- Classifications of fire
- Portable Fire Extinguishers - the different types and their uses
- Practocal experience of putting out live fires using the "clean-burn unit"
Fire Safety in the Workplace
Under current legislation (The Fire Safety Regulations, Northern Ireland, 2010) employers "shall ensure that his employees are provided with adequate fire safety training".
This 3 hour course will enable participants to recognise fire hazards in the workplace and know what action to take should a fire occur.
Objectives - On completion of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify fire hazards in the workpolace
- List precautions to be taken
- Select the appropriate fire figting equipment
- Use this equipment safely and effectively
Course Content
- Course Introduction and Objectives
- Fire traingle
- Dangers and consequences of fire
- How heat and smoke spread through a building
- Appropriate action to be taken in the event of a fire
- Selection of the appropriate fire fighting equipment
- Practical exercises in extinguishing live fires using the "clean-burn unit"
- Written Test
Fire Warden
This 4 hour course will enable those employees who have been nominated as Fire Wardens to carry out their duties safely and effectively both on a routine basis and in an emergency situation.
Objectives - on completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Have an understanding of current Fire Legislation in Northern Ireland including Fire Risk Assessments
- Identify fire hazards in the workplace and teh precautions to be taken
- Know the appropriate action to be taken should a fire occur
- Identify and use the appropriate fire fighting equipment
- Ensure evacuations take place safely and effectively

- Overview of Northern Ireland Fire Legislation
- Fire Risk Assessments
- Fire Triangle
- How heat and smoke spread through a building
- Classifications of Fire
- Selecting the appropriate Fire Fighting Equipment and practical exercises in it's use
- Evacuation procedures including PEEPS
- Liaising with the Fire & Rescue Service
- Post event reports etc.
- Routine workplace inspections
- Testing and recording of alarms, lights etc.
- The Fire Log Book
- Written Test
